			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The ‘zone’ is the body’s physical state when it achieves a perfect hormonal balance.  The term is borrowed from the athlete’s jargon of reaching their ‘zones’ of peak performance.  Dr. Barry Sears, the creator of the controversial zone diet,  believes that similar to the athletes, people can be in a perfect state of mind and body during which it can function to its maximum efficiency.  This can be achieved by manipulating the levels of hormones in the body through the kinds of food eaten, in the right proportions, on a daily basis.</p>
<p>Natural mechanisms in the body utilize energy derived from food.  Nutrients and vital substances help keep a healthy and strong body.  As soon as these nutrients get depleted in the bodily system, the natural mechanism is to feel hunger.  In response, a person eats and gains saturation, feeling satisfied in the next hours.  However, not all of the energy eaten gets burned naturally by physical activities.  Some gets stored as fats.<span id="more-57"></span></p>

<p>The zone diet is actually a plan to control the body’s insulin production.  Hormonal balance can be achieved by sticking to a meal with a specific ratio of 40% carbohydrates, 30% fat and 30% proteins, popularly known as the 40-30-30 ratio.   The high protein content makes the body release glucagon hormones, which in turn triggers the liver to release the stored carbohydrates.  The presence of carbohydrates then consequently gives more glucose to be used as energy, giving the signal to the body that it is full, with enough energy supply.  This will effectively stop the person from eating more.  Having this balance of glucagon and insulin hormones by setting food intake in the right proportions will result to successfully losing weight.  This whole scenario is the process by which the zone diet works.</p>
<p>Processed foods, too salty ones and those that contain saturated fats are taboos to this kind of diet.  Drinking 8 glasses of water daily, eating green and leafy vegetables including fruits and nuts are highly recommended.  To stay in the zone, so to speak, calorie consumption is conscientiously monitored.  A meal should not exceed 500 in calories and a snack should be within 100 calories.<br />
Aside from losing unnecessary weight and fats, the zone diet can effect other important benefits.  It is also known to cure diabetes and other cardiovascular, chronic ailments.  Sure enough, if one is given the chance to achieve these benefits without being prohibited to enjoy food, going into the zone is quite worth it.</p>

<p>The fast diet espouses a twice a year fasting lasting one whole week for each time.  A fast is said to be highly effective in detoxifying the body, eliminating the harmful toxins accumulated by one’s antibiotic intake and pesticide inhalation.<span id="more-25"></span>      </p>
<p>Drinking a lot of water and fruit juices, around three quarts in quantity, and eating fiber rich foods is recommended during the first three days of fasting.  It is also best to remove fats and protein.  The succeeding five days will be the main stage of the fast.  During this stage, no solid food should be taken and the body should only be supplied with vegetable juices.  Fruit juices can also be taken but in limited amounts. <p>After a fast diet,  the required foods to be eaten should be in the raw state.  Processed foods like ham, hotdogs and sausages are highly discouraged.  While on fast, it is recommended to continue exercising.  Take caution though, that with the limited food intake, energy levels may not suffice strenuous exercises.  However, it is important for  the joints and the body parts exert some form of movement to encourage agility and a smooth flow of the whole body system.  It is interesting to note how people claim to feel much energized and alert during fasting.    </p>
<p>As with any kind of diet regimen, visiting the doctor is always the required initial step.   There are medical conditions that cannot be sustained with a low calorie diet.  Solely drinking juice may seem unable to provide sufficient nutrients, but as mentioned, it is but one way for waste detoxification.<br />
Although fasting may seem to be refraining from getting a lot of food, this diet comes with an expense.  Organic foods are quite costly and vegetable fruit juices from health food stores are expensive specialty foods.  The high liquid consumption can also cause constipation, like a daily enema. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Walking is one of the best exercises for weight loss and overall fitness.  Most other types of exercise do not use as many muscles in such a contintuous and even action.  Walking is something you can normally do at anytime in your life.  It has been found to be a very beneficial way of preventing heart related diseases and a great way to help those who already have had heart problems recover.</p>
<p>Walking can be considered a great life insurance policy because as your walking muscles get weaker, your whole body begins to get weaker.  If you are interested in beginning a walking program as a way to lose weight and get fit, there are a few things you should consider.  You want to find the best walking routine for you.  As always, it is wise to consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.  If you have heart problems, take medication, or are over the age of 40 you will want to make sure your doctor is aware of these issues.<span id="more-17"></span></p>
<p>There are a few different forms of walking, and it makes sense to start out easy and work your way up as you get more comfortable.</p>
<p>Possible the slowest type of walking is just strolling.  You stroll at about 1 mile per hour.  While this may not seem to be much exercise, strolling allows you to stay at it for a long time and you can cover a lot of miles.  This adds up to impressive exercise.  Simple things like walking the dog will add to you mileage total and your weight loss.</p>

<p>When you speed up a little from strolling you are walking normally.  This doesn&#8217;t mean trying to keep up a quick pace, but you&#8217;re just walking as you would practically with a purpose.  Normaly walking is closer to 3 miles per hour pace.  A great way to improve your weight loss program is by simply adding more walking to it.</p>
<p>A great way to do this, if possible in your circumstance, is to walk to work.  If you spend time waiting for busses or trains, you might find that it doesn&#8217;t take you much more time to commute by walking.  Another way to add walking to your daily life is by taking hte stairs.  Avoid elevators.  Walk over to talk to someone rather than calling them or sending an email.  Also, during work breaks, take a walk to stretch your legs out.</p>
<p>A great weight loss tip is to take a walk before a meal.  This can actually lessen your apetite and therefore can be a great tool in helping to manage your weight.  Even if it&#8217;s a short 15 minute walk, you will see the benefits.</p>

<p>If you really want to step up your walking execises to lose weight, you want to try aerobic walking.  This is walking done at a quick pace, with a duration or level of effort that gets the heart pumping.  Your lungs should be breathing rapidly and your arms should be pumping.  You can do this for 15 - 30 minutes at a time.  If you do this 3 times a week, again you will see results.  During these aerobic walks you should be trying to increase your heartrate to to about 3/4 of its max.</p>
<p>Normally you can reach aerobic walking by just increasing the pace.  But, there are other methods also like walking up an incline, hiking a mountain or even walking with some weight like a backpack.</p>
<p>It is becomming increasing popular to do long distance walking. There are a log of courses mapped out across the US.  These can have great results, but you&#8217;ll want to make sure you are prepared before embarking on one of these journeys.</p>
<p>You level of fitness should determine what walking style to use for your weight loss and fitness goals.  If you are just starting and aren&#8217;t very fit, walking slowly for 15 - 30 minutes might bring your heart rate up to its target zone while a super fit walker may have to wak much quicker for an hour to reach his desired heart rate.</p>
<p>Additionally your age comes into play when considering your target heart rate.  You can find several charts on internet that will give you age based targets for heart beats.</p>
<p>You can check your heart right during your walking exercise.  If necessary, stop in the middle and measure it then.  Simply count your heart beats for 10 seconds and multiply that number by six to get a good estimate of your heart beats per minute.</p>
<p>With that information you&#8217;ll know if you need to speed up or slow down to get into your target heart rate zone.  As I mentioned previously, the more fit you get and the more weight you lose, the harder you will have to work to get into your target heart rate.  Again, you can do this several ways including moving faster, walking longer, walking up an inclind, or walking carrying weight.  This will help you to continually increase your fitness.</p>
<p>Walking for weight loss is a fun and easy way to get fit.  The risk of injury is lower than most exercises and the results can be just as profound.  You can continue walking well into your old age and you&#8217;ll be glad if you do.  So get out there and see what walking can do for you.</p>

<p>As people get older its natural for their eating habits to differ from when they were younger.  Usually they lessen the amount of exercise they get and in general, the lifestyle that the live tends be less and less active.  Even if a person maintained the same level of activity throughout their life, one thing that changes for sure is metabolism.  As the years pass, metabolism slows down.  This tends to make it easier for the body to store the fat the people are seeing accumulating around their stomachs.<span id="more-16"></span></p>
<p>The battle plan if you want to trim down your stomach is actually quite simple.  Try to keep your metabolism running at as high a rate as possible and it will be able to burn fat at a rate the keeps your belly trim.  The nice part about this, is that it doesn&#8217;t require you to spend any money on a so called fat burning pill or a calorie cutting diet.  In fact, you dont even have to buy a super expensive exercise machine from a late night infomercial.  All you really need to do to increase the speed of your metabolism is two relatively easy things: eat right and exercise.</p>

<p>Everything that your body requires to work on a daily basis is provided by the food that you eat.  Sadly, this is often one of the most misunderstood parts of any attempt to trim down your stomach.  The nutritional content of food that you eat is a big factor in the calculation to determine how well your metabolism works.</p>
<p>The rate at which you burn calories is referred to as your metabolic rate.  The higher the ammount of calories that you burn over the course of a day is the higher the amount of weight you can lose.  Often, people make the mistake of doing away with too many calories in their diet.  This has the worse affect of decreasing the speed at which their metabolism works.</p>

<p>The second type of exercise you will need to encorporate into you workout is weight training.  Weight training is essential for anyone who wants to lose weight.  The fact is, lean muscle mass burns calories like nothing else.  They even burn fat while they are at rest.  And for those trying to lose weight around their midsection, weight training puts the core musles (abdominals, obliques, and back muscles) to work.  These musles are the ones that stabilize your midsection and keep your stomach flat.</p>

<p>One of the most important aspects of losing weight is controlling the levels of the hormone insulin in your tissues and blood.  Insulin is released in when the sugar level in the blood and tissues is higher than it should be for your required energy use.  Usually this happens because you are eating more carbs in your diet than you require for your activity level.  Often people are eating enough for a marathon runner, but being as active as a couch potato.<span id="more-15"></span></p>
<p>For most people lowering their carb intake to around 75 or fewer grams per day will achieve gradual loss of weight.  This will work for about 70-80 percent of the population and will get the to an ideal weight.  And ideal weight does not mean as skinny as a model.  But, the fact is, this strategy is certainly not effective with everyone.</p>
<p>What can you do if you happen to be one of the people that cannot lose weight by this means?  First, your can decrease your carb level to about 40 grams per day for up to two week about every two - three months.  Often, this will get you the results you have been unable to obtain.  However, it is a difficult diet than many people find difficult or impossible to maintain.</p>
<p>An addition option you have to is get on a heavy exercise program and keep your carb level about the same.  Again, this is difficult and the results will not be immediate and can take a lot of time and effort.</p>
<p>Thirdly you have the option of supplementing these activities with the fat burning enzyme lipase. Taking this time of high potency enzyme 3 times per day in between meals and as far from eating as possible usually will do a good job of mobilizing your fat stores.  Some people complain of a slight feeling of nausea when using this type of enzyme, and if this happens to you, you can take some bitters 2 - 3 times per day to help clear out the fat breakdown products that result from the enzyme digestion.  Many brands of these enzymes are available commercially.</p>

<p><strong>Quick walking</strong></p>
<p>Quick walking, as I have mentioned previously is a great way to lose weight in your thighs, hips, and butt.  If you want to make it even more effective, try brisk walking up an incline.  You may want to pick a specific incline that you can repeatedly exercise on.  You will want to walk quickly up the slope and then walk slowly back down the slope and repeat.  Walking stairs can give you the same benefit, so it&#8217;s a good idea to avoid the elevator and take the stairs instead.</p>
<p><strong>Treadmill walking</strong></p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t want to walk outside you can use a treadmill.  You&#8217;ll want to warm up at a slow pace and no incline.  After you&#8217;ve been walking for a few minutes you can increase the incline and walk at a faster pace for about a minute.  Then slow it down and drop the incline down to 0 for a couple of minutes.  Again repeat this process for a while depending on how comfortable you feel.  If you feel that you need more, you can increase the incline and take a shorter rest period.  Just make sure you are timing yourself and sticking to it.  These types of interval workouts can be done with any kind of exercise, and it&#8217;s a good idea to mix things up to prevent yourself from getting bored.  As you get fitter and you start to trim down your hips, you&#8217;ll want to adjust the workouts accordingly.</p>
<p><strong>Sprints</strong></p>
<p>As you advance, sprinting can be a super exercise especially for your rear end. Workouts like this also help to increase your endurance, increase stamina, and strengthen your lungs.  Start of walking for about 5 minutes then turn it into a run (this does not mean jog) for about 1 minute.  Then you need to slow down to a walk until you fully recover.  Once you are fully recovered, turn it on with a sprint for 1 minute.  Sprinting is where you will really start to see results beyond regular exercise.  About 40 minutes a weak of brisk walking can maintain your health, but if you have fitness goals or want to taget certain areas like losing weight of your hips, you will need to add the additional workout.  Make sure you keep hydrated by drinking a lot of water.  If you get dehydrated you wont feel bad and you wont want to sprint again.</p>
<p><strong>Stretches </strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to stretch before you begin exercising, especially if you are doing sprints. As you tighten your muscles, you could reduce your flexibility if you aren&#8217;t maintaining your stretching.  Reach towards your head towards your knees without bending while you are standing or sitting.  This will stretch your back and also your thigh muscles.</p>
<p><strong>Leg Lifts</strong></p>
<p>Another exercise that will help you trim down your hips is the leg lift.  You do this by lying on your back with your legs extended.  Lift a leg while maintaining the other on the floor.  Don&#8217;t bend either knee.  Try to lift it so it is straight up.  Hold it for a period of about 5 seconds and then put the leg down.  Repeat this same process a few times and then switch to the other leg.  This is a great exercise for trimming down your butt and hips.</p>
